Family Tragedies and Their Impact
During Chelsea’s early years in New Jersey, her father, Seymour, a used-car dealer, and her mother, Rita, a housewife, had five kids before her, making her the youngest.
The Handler family had been in for a tragic loss in 1984 when Chelsea’s eldest brother, Chet, passed away during a hiking accident in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, at only 22 years of age.
